Every day, more than 350 million photos are posted on Facebook, over 1,440 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube, and 100 billion emails are sent per day.
Most of it is harmless, but a proportion is inevitably offensive, upsetting or explicit. “Revenge porn” – posting explicit images online without the subject’s consent – was made a criminal offence in the UK this year and has seen a surge in reports in recent months.
