Press Release: Image Analyzer Unveils Next-Generation Patented Technology: Real-time Video Content Scanning Protects Users from Pornography

The breakthrough technology, which has recently had patents granted in 148 global territories, is able to detect and classify pornography in streaming video content, in real-time with up to 99 percent accuracy.

United Kingdom – January 29th, 2015 – Image Analyzer, the market’s solution for detecting sexually explicit image content, has unveiled a groundbreaking technology that can scan streaming video for pornographic content in real-time. The first-of-its-kind feature has the potential to revolutionize parental controls and content management. Previously, manual moderation prior to delivery was the only available solution for identifying offensive video content in real-time. The sheer volume of new content generated on a daily basis makes effective human moderation nearly impossible. Now there is another option. Instead of relying on site members and human moderators to flag explicit material after it’s already live on a website, websites and parental control solution providers can partner with Image Analyzer to implement a proactive solution. The patented technology scans requested videos before they appear on screen with minimal delay and detects pornography with up to 99 percent accuracy before users are exposed to any harmful content.

Crispin Pikes CEO of Image Analyzer commented, “We believe this is a game changer – prior to the delivery of this new capability from Image Analyzer there was no way to protect users in ‘real time’ from offensive video content other than a human having previewed the requested content which in itself subjects moderators to sometimes disturbing content. This method limited the user’s experience and is simply not scalable. Now when a user clicks to play a video on their device we’ll have scanned it before it appears on their screen and can advise if it contains pornography.”

Image Analyzer’s unique real-time video scanning tool improves online safety without diminishing the user experience. Streaming video can be analyzed within milliseconds, less than the time it takes to load content from popular sites like YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion, Twitter, and Facebook. If a video or clip contains pornography, the technology terminates the connection before the end user is exposed to any inappropriate content.

Recent data suggests that online video traffic is on the rise. Cisco’s Visual Networking Index reports an increase in Internet video traffic of 16 percent year-over-year from 2012 to 2013. The company predicts that online video will account for 78 percent of all consumer Internet traffic by 2018.  According to ComScore, 196.5 million Americans watched online video content on sites like Google, YouTube, Facebook, AOL, Yahoo, and Bing during August 2014.

As online video becomes more prevalent, the need for an effective real-time scanning solution is increasing. Existing safe searches and filtering tools do not have the capacity to analyze videos in real-time and inappropriate material can inadvertently appear in online search results. For example, a popular search engine might play a video clip containing offensive content even though safe search is enabled. A recent survey by Enough is Enough, an internet safety organization, reports that seven out of ten children who’ve viewed online pornography have done so unintentionally. Links to inappropriate content appeared in search results for an innocent online keyword search, on another site that was deemed safe, in a pop-up advertisement, or via a misspelled site URL.

Image Analyzer’s patented video scanning technology provides an effective solution to the problem of pornographic content on legitimate video sharing sites like YouTube, Facebook, and Vine. It can also be used to scan content in real-time on blogs and online forums. Rather than relying on simplistic and inaccurate skin tone analysis to determine if a video contains pornography, Image Analyzer uses 12 separate analysis modules to detect human nudity. The technology can effectively classify inappropriate content in streaming videos with nearly 100 percent accuracy and is optimized by Intel for ‘lightning fast’ performance.

“By using the Patent Corporation Treaty we have secured this unique approach within 148 territories. We are now actively seeking industry partners to incorporate this valuable feature within their products via our OEM channel model,” Pikes said.
