This means social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram must remove harmful material within 24 hours or face a hefty fine.
Under these new laws, if the platforms or websites ignore any take-down notices, they could see their sites deleted from search engines or their apps removed from the app stores.
This is new legislation that makes Australia’s existing laws for online safety more expansive and much stronger.
